Being an issue of vital importance, this illegal timber trade activity has economic, political and social repercussions. In 2003 the European Commission made a proposal in this regard. It was an action plan in order to apply laws and actions to combat the illegal felling of forests and all the trade that comes with it. Regulation 2173/2005 was approved , which established a system of FLEGT licenses for the importation of wood into the European Community.
Specific rules were established for its application. One of them defined the verification model and characteristics of the competent authority of the Member State. At that time, Regulation 995/2010 , also called the EUTR Regulation, which comes from the English acronym for the Whatsapp Mobile Number List European Timber Regulation , was approved . It entered into force on March 3, 2013 and its main objective was to achieve a ban on the circulation of illegal timber in the internal market.
It includes the obligations of the agents that have commercial activities with wood and derived products. To monitor the supply chain, said Regulation requires merchants to identify which natural or legal persons have bought or sold the product. Previously, there was a Due Diligence System , which said that it should be exercised by the agents that traded with the wood, either individually or by other supervision entities.
